Macmillan Coffee Morning

On a glorious sunny autumnal morning, Tess and a team of volunteers hosted a Macmillan coffee morning in Clayton Wood’s Oak Hall.

Along with the team’s usual tombola, the morning featured a table of homemade preserves and bakes, draught excluders and knitted Christmas teddies and toys.

Visitors were also asked to bring along memories of their lost loved ones. Encouraged by the warm and friendly atmosphere, people were able to talk about their loved ones’ achievements and lives by sharing photographs, poems and stories.

The Clayton Wood team said: “They were amazing. Days like this are so affirming, bringing out the best in folk as they gathered to remember.

“A wonderful day was had by all, and we managed to raise nearly £450. So much more than just donations comes from a day like that.

“I would like to say an enormous thank you to Sue and her mum for their hard work preparing and running the tombola, to Jean and her daughter Heather for growing and sharing her produce and handicrafts and for Tammy’s continuous hard work and support to our wonderful visitors to Clayton Wood.”

Grown by Jean and turned into delicious goodies by our volunteer Saturday coffee morning host Tammy, there were sausage and vegan rolls, frittatas and gluten, dairy-free and full fat cakes and bakes free to enjoy whilst drinking and chatting.

A further selection of jams and chutneys are currently available for sale in the site’s foyer.

    Celebration of a life

  • After the death of my 16 year old son arranging the funeral became my obsession. It had to be befitting for my ‘magnificent son’. Once the arrangements were made deciding where to inter his ashes became the next obsession. It had to be just right. Somewhere peaceful. Somewhere he would have liked. Somewhere where I would want to return. Several options were…

A peaceful & beautiful resting place

  • My wife and I often discussed the merits of cremation or burial and eventually decided on burial-but the idea of churchyards with their rows of tombstones did not appeal, and most of the ones we had seen were derelict and overgrown. We both decided we would like a woodland burial, where from the afterlife, we could commune with nature. Over…

The moment our family came to view Clayton Wood in our time of need, there was no question that this had to be the special place where our son was to…
