All coffins, caskets and urns must be completely biodegradable. Your local funeral director will be able to supply you with a wide range of options.

Is embalming permitted?

Embalming is only allowed under exceptional circumstances such as repatriation.

Is the ground consecrated?

No, any faith can be buried here and it does not matter where you live, the charges are the same. However, individual graves can be blessed at the time of burial.

You don’t have to live within the local area to rest in peace at Clayton Wood; we are open to all – no matter where you live.

We schedule all burials to ensure that you have all the privacy and time you require.

Any flowers placed on the graves will be removed once they start to show signs of deterioration. However, we ask you to keep these to a minimum and ask that they are kept as natural as possible.

Only fresh cut flowers without ribbon or cellophane are allowed. Please do not use oasis or any plastics, nor tie cards or other memorabilia to trees. Vases, jars or containers can not be left on the grave.

We are a member of the Association of Natural Burial Grounds, which has been established by The Natural Death Centre. We comply with the ANBG Code of Conduct aimed at ensuring the highest professional and environmental standards, providing our customers assurance of best practice.

What our clients say...

  • My daughter and I were so impressed with the caring and efficient way the staff at Clayton Wood helped us to meet my late wife's wish for a natural burial. We wanted it to be a dignified but happy occasion - the celebration of a life - and by working with us in a most sympathetic and helpful manner they…

Once the arrangements were made deciding where to inter his ashes became the next obsession. It had to be just right. Somewhere peaceful. Somewhere he would have liked. Somewhere where I would want to return. Several options were…

The moment our family came to view Clayton Wood in our time of need, there was no question that this had to be the special place where our son was to…

Without exception, my questions and requests were gently dealt with.  Having to cope on my own, they literally “held my hand” throughout the decisions and formalities, ensuring I understood all that was required. The grounds are well…
